Empowering Communities with Livelihood Support Projects

OASIS’s livelihood support programs have been a beacon of hope for many families in the Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi districts. These initiatives aim to uplift individuals and families by providing the necessary resources and training to create sustainable income sources. In regions where economic opportunities have been limited, OASIS’s livelihood projects have proven to be a game-changer.

With funding from the Truth to Power Foundation, these projects have helped families engage in various income-generating activities such as poultry farming, animal husbandry, agriculture, and small-scale trade. For example, many women in the region, previously engaged in labor-intensive tasks for minimal pay, have now become entrepreneurs in poultry farming. These women, many of whom were widows or abandoned by their spouses, have seen a dramatic improvement in their monthly incomes, ranging from Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 21,000.

These projects have not only improved financial stability but also increased the independence and confidence of women, allowing them to provide for their families and invest in their children’s education. The integration of sustainable farming practices and the provision of essential equipment and training have allowed individuals to develop skills that are transferable across various sectors.

OASIS’s livelihood initiatives empower communities by giving them the tools to break the cycle of poverty, fostering self-reliance and a renewed sense of hope for the future.
